美聯社報導，死者中包括父親抱在懷裡卻被大水衝走的雙胞胎幼童，當局擔憂死亡人數恐將攀升。
洪水淹沒當地的道路與通訊設施，以致民眾無法與至親取得聯繫，也無法確認失聯的親友是否平安。
漢弗萊斯郡（Humphreys）警長戴維斯（Chris Davis）說，許多失蹤者集中在鄰近水勢暴漲地區。
美國國家氣象局（National Weather
Service）說，當地21日在不到24小時內，降下430毫米的雨量，可說是打破田納西州的單日降雨量紀錄。

During the flood yesterday he jumped into the raging water to try
and save an elderly lady caught in it’s flow. The water pulled him
under and he lost his life. He died trying to save a stranger. He
