2022諾貝爾醫學獎出爐，由瑞典遺傳學權威專家帕博（Svante
Paabo）獨得殊榮，他在已滅絕人類的基因組和演化中得出開創性的研究，發現古老基因序會影響當今人類生理機能。如今他的成長背景和個人生活再度浮出，戲劇性的轉折看完令人目瞪口呆。
根據瑞典《醫療報》（Lakartidningen）、英國《衛報》（The
Guardian）及維基百科描述，本人在2014年出版的《尼安德塔人：尋找失落的基因組》（Neanderthal Man: In
Search of Lost Genomes）坦率回憶自己的故事，稱是父親啟發自己對生命科學的興趣。

1955年帕博在家鄉瑞典斯德哥爾摩出生，1986年於烏普薩拉大學取得博士學位，本名斯萬特·帕博（Svante
Paabo），父親伯格斯特龍（Sune Karl
Bergström）也是諾貝爾醫學獎得主，1982年因發現前列腺素而獲獎。身為老爸的私生子，從小便由母親卡琳·帕博（Karin
Pääbo）獨力扶養長大，因此從母姓，卡琳·帕博本身是愛沙尼亞化學家。
他表示，父親每個禮拜只會來家裡一次，他的正牌老婆完全不知道有這件事，「老實說，現在看來是蠻奇怪的」。母親卡琳·帕博於 2005
年去世，「直到那時候同父異母的哥哥才知道我的存在，幸運的是，我們相處得很好。」
此外，他還在自傳中坦承自己是雙性戀，長期以來覺得自己是同性戀，直到愛上充滿「男子氣概」的妻子、靈長類學科學家維吉倫特（Linda
Vigilant），婚後育有1子1女。
