最新的年度特寫攝影師大賽的獲勝者拍攝了兩隻幼小的蠑螈被一種多肉植物慢慢吞噬的驚人鏡頭。這項比賽已經舉辦到第四年，已經成為年度攝影比賽日曆上的一個亮點。年度特寫攝影師大賽由一對英國攝影師在2018年創立，旨在突出各種宏觀和微觀攝影。在第四屆比賽中增加了兩個新的類別，使10個廣泛的參賽領域，從動物、昆蟲和蝴蝶到人造物體、水下拍攝和真菌。
這是成千上萬隻白蟻的大型交配現場，不過照片名為《入侵者》，因為有1隻燕雀正快活地穿梭其間，大啖白蟻大餐。這張照片在“年度特寫攝影師獎”本月公布的得獎名單中，於“昆蟲”類別奪冠。

拍照的印度攝影師杜他（Anirban Dutta）說，在每年雨季前，白蟻總是在傍晚時婚飛（nuptial
flight），也就是交配繁殖時群飛。“我在印度科奇比哈爾（Cooch
Beha）的城鎮看到成千上萬的白蟻繞著一盞路燈婚飛，但有1隻黑燕雀卻混在其中，花了20分鍾邊抓邊吃白蟻。”杜他說從未看過這景象，拍下多張照片，這張參賽照由3張照片合成。
“年度特寫攝影師”攝影獎於2018年開辦，本月公布的是第4屆得獎名單，共有來自54國攝影師，提交逾9000張作品參賽，攝影獎設有動物、昆蟲、植物、水下、菌類植物等11類別，。

攝影師霍爾（Jamie Hall）在澳洲布裏斯班的保育公園，拍到這隻蜘蛛（Arkys
curtulus），牠是伏擊式掠食者，不像多數蜘蛛織網來抓捕獵物，牠們坐在葉子上把自己捲成一團，眼睛朝上、腹部朝下，偽裝成尋常鳥屎，等著蒼蠅或其他不知天敵在此的昆蟲，遊蕩到附近一舉成擒。

史戴芬斯是在加拿大亞崗昆省立公園（Algonquin Provincial
Park）拍下這張捕蠅草大快朵頤的照片，這款捕蠅草名為紫瓶子草（Northern Pitcher
Plants）。一般捕蠅草多攝食蛾、蒼蠅之類體型較小的無脊椎動物，不過加國“亞崗昆野生動物研究站”學者訝異發現，紫瓶子草會攝食體型較大脊椎動物蠑螈，這對成為大餐的是斑點鈍口螈（Spotted
Salamander）。
攝影師史戴芬斯說：“我跟著一群研究員，走著他們每日植物研究行程時，看到這畫麵，雖然捕蠅草偶爾會一次抓到多尾蠑螈，不過通常每次隻消化1尾，當我看到它一次2尾，牠們仍漂浮在植物液體的表麵，腐壞程度相當，我知道這是特別且罕見的畫麵。隔天我又去看時，牠們已經沉到底部了。”
