Weinland）在推特上描述了他的生活現狀。他表示自己居住的賓館已經沒有飲用水，網上的送水上門服務也已經暫停。但同時，他發現中國官媒卻在表揚政府對此輪疫情的有效管控。

芝加哥大學政治學教授楊大利在推特上表示，居民們的反應是上海市政府過激抗疫措施的結果。
他寫道：“上海的專家們和大多數公眾明白，對接種疫苗的人來說，奧密克戎感染的嚴重性很輕。在這種情況下，封城和將感染者強迫隔離在惡劣的環境下，導致的反抗並不令人驚訝。”
