據外媒報道，當地時間8月12日上午，著名作家薩爾曼·拉什迪在美國紐約州的一次演講活動中遇襲，目前在接受治療。

一名美聯社記者在現場目睹，當拉什迪在紐約州北部的Chautauqua
Institution的舞台上被介紹給觀眾時，一名男子衝上台襲擊了拉什迪。這位75歲的作家應聲倒地。現場照片顯示，遇襲後作家在現場接受治療。

據報道，襲擊者已被捕。

拉什迪的《撒旦詩篇》自1988年起在伊朗被禁，拉什迪也受到了人身威脅。拉什迪當時住在英國，在警方的保護下生活了好幾年。
