紐約當地媒體周二（14日）報導，預定明年元旦就任的紐約市長當選人亞當斯（Eric
Adams），將指派紐約市警局成立176年來首位女局長。
《紐約每日新聞》（New York Daily
News）報導，本身也曾是紐約局長的亞當斯，將在周三（15日）於皇後區的記者會，介紹新的紐約市警局局長賽薇爾（Keechant
Sewell）。
亞當斯的聲明表示，”賽薇爾打擊犯罪的成績有目共睹，有著豐富經驗與高情商，能給紐約客他們需要的安全，以及應得的正義”。
《紐約時報》指出，賽薇爾是在紐約納蘇縣（Nassau
County）任職23年的老鳥，她在當地警局擔任首席警探；此外，除了是紐約史上首位女性警長，她也將是紐約市史上第3位非裔警長。
現任的紐約市警察局長席亞（Dermot Shea）是在2019年由現在的紐約市長白思豪（Bill de Blasio）指派。
