目擊者描述，事發當時聽到20多聲槍響，接著就看到一名受傷婦女從建築物衝出，之後也有許多學生急忙逃出，警車趕到後隨即封鎖周邊地區，包括數間外國駐美大使館、霍華大學（Howard
University）法學院、哥倫比亞特區大學的梵內斯校區及席德威友誼學校（Sidwell Friends
School）。警方清查發現二女一男受到槍傷，傷勢嚴重但無生命危險，另外一名青少年傷患則是輕傷。
目前凶嫌犯案動機及死亡原因，警方均尚未公布說明。
